Ayurveda is the science of life
(Ayur = life,Veda = science or knowledge).
It is the oldest continuously practiced health care system in the world.
The Ayurvedic approach treats each individual differently taking into account unique psychological, emotional, and physical conditions. Ayurveda concentrates on prevention and understanding ones own makeup or constitution (prakruti) and focuses on how the outer world and our environment affect ones daily life (vikruti).
The goal of Ayurveda is to attain optimal health through deeper understanding of oneself and their particular relationship to the world around them. It is a system based on understanding the natural healing process of the body. Through this process the body, mind, and spirit is balanced and strengthened.
During an Ayurvedic Consultation the Ayurvedic Practitioner uses a detailed intake form which includes a complete medical and lifestyle history, and performs a physical evaluation to help determine the individual’s current state of imbalances (vikruti) and constitution (prakruti). Pulse and tongue evaluation are also used to determine overall health and imbalances.
Based upon these assessments a personalized plan is formulated for the individual that would include diet and lifestyle suggestions, appropriate exercise and yoga practices, and at times herbal supplements. Meditation, breathing exercises (pranayama), and/or bodywork may also be suggested to maintain or bring harmony into the individual’s daily life.
After the initial consultation follow-up visits with the practitioner are scheduled to evaluate the individual’s progress and make changes to better support their overall health.
